Knowledge translation, Quality and Policy
Our ability to impact health care policy in Quebec, nationally and internationally represents a unique expertise of our research axis. The Technology Assessment Unit of the MUHC provides systematic evaluation of efficacy, safety, cost-effectiveness and social impact of technology in cardiovascular disease. In synchrony with theme content above, projects include the policy impact of transcatheter aortic valve implantation, and coronary revascularization. Highlighted by CIHR for its innovation, the impact of specialized care for patients with congenital heart disease delivered along RUIS corridors is expected to inform provincial policy on health care delivery systems for other complex conditions. Resulting work has informed policy makers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US. Resulting Quality Improvement initiatives are occurring, bringing together the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC). Highly rated by the CIHR, GWAS studies on the prevention of aortic stenosis are expected to make unique contributions in public health genomics. Funded by CIHR and supported by the Canadian Hypertension Education Program (CHEP), a pan- Canadian network of hypertension policy-makers will assess methods of blood pressure measurements in order to reduce misclassification and inform guidelines. Our researchers have been named to the board of governors of INESSS, and have been leaders and primary panelists in the generation of CCS, CHEP, ACC and American Heart Association guideline documents on Dyslipidemia and Prevention and Cardiovascular Disease, Hypertension, Health Policy Statement on Use of Noninvasive Cardiovascular Imaging, the Stroke Network of Excellence and Care of Adults with Congenital Heart Disease. We have been leaders in the Program Committee Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics, the Quebec Society of Vascular Sciences, and the North American Artery Society. We have been appointed president-elect at the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. We have been expert committee members on the board of the Institut national d’excellence en santé et en services sociaux and members of the Réseau québécois de cardiologie tertiaire.
